Kumbhalgarh:
If you have any notion in your mind that you are visiting an abandoned medieval structure in Kumbalgarh, then better change your mind. You can find Kumbhalgarh as the hub of delighted activities within your reach. Kumbhalgarh is a small fort town located some 84 km from Udaipur in the state of Rajasthan. It is well connected to other important places in the region by all weather roads. It is famous for it Fort and its wild life sanctuary.
Kumbhalgarh has turned out to be a major tourist destination, owing to the fact that it is within easy reach of Udaipur, Jodhpur, Ajmer, and Pushkar. Kumbhalgarh is only a couple of hours drive from Udaipur. Rana Kumbha of Mewar built this great defensive fortress on an 1100 m high hill overlooking the approaches from Ajmer and Marwar in 15th century.

Kumbhalgarh Fort
You will be simply amazed at the massive outlook of the Kumbhalgarh Fort. Though little known, Kumbhalgarh has one of the finest examples of defensive fortifications in entire Rajasthan. Located at a height of over 3000 feet stands the mighty Kumbhalgarh Fort and the perimeter wall is an astounding 36 kilometers. Inside the periphery wall, there are over 360 temples. A large number of these are Jain temples.
There is no road linking these ruins, so you'll have to pull up your socks and walk. Despite its strength, the fort was conquered once, after a siege that lasted many months. Today, about 450 people live inside the fort precincts. The fort is being maintained by the Archaeological Survey of India. Visitors are allowed between 9 am and 5:30 pm.

Kumbhalgarh Wildlife Sanctuary
Kumbhalgarh is surrounded by a wildlife sanctuary. If you like a little adventure, just venture into the Sanctuary. You will thoroughly enjoy the horse safari and you can also ride to the fort and horse around for a couple of hours. The main attraction here would be panther, sloth bear, wild boar, four-horned antelope, or crocodiles. Crocodiles are "Scientifically Bred" in a lake in the Crocodile Farm. The Crocodile Farm has a guest house belonging to the Forest Department, and overnight stays are possible. One also finds plenty of chakor partridge, crow pheasants, jungle warblers, golden orioles, gray jungle fowl, and the usual peacocks, parrots, pigeons, and doves.
Camel Safari
Experience the adventure of camel safari. Since the sun can get very hot in desert, the best times for a camel safari are in the morning and evening, even in the cooler winter months. Such safaris are usually run by professional outfits who hire raikas, the camel keepers who are adapt at finding the best routes and water holes in the desert, and navigate almost by instinct guided, of course, by the position of the stars at night.
