Thiruvananthapuram:

Allappuza (Alleppey) :
Known as the Venice of the east, this town is situated on the Vebanad Lake, the longest lake in India. The large network of canals provides Alleppey its lifeline. Some lovely stretches of backwater connect Allappuza to Kollam and Kottayam.
Idyllic cruises into the unspoiled interiors of Kerala are possible over the waterways. Allappuza is famous for the boat races held annually in August/ September.

Kottayam:
Kottayam is a prominent commercial center with palm fringed backwaters on the west and the scenic Western Ghats to the east. One can travel by road or by boat to Kottayam over the lagoons and waterways. A center of the Syrian Christian community, Kottayam has some fine churches. Ettumanoor near Kottaym has a Shiva temple - a good specimen of Kerala temple architecture.

Kollam (Quilon):
One of the Kerala's ancient capitals, Kollam was once a thriving port where Greek, Roman and Arab vessels came to trade. There are some historic remains and a number of temples built in the traditional ornate architecture. In the present day, Kollam is a typical Kerala town, set picturesquely on the Ashtamudi lake.

largest and most visited wildlife reserves in India, the Periyar
Wild life sanctuary occupies 777 sq km of the Cardamom hils region
of the western ghats. The majority of its visitors come in the hope

Kumarakom: 16
km away from the Kottayam, is technically an island on Vembanad be
reached quite easily. The beautiful Kumarakom bird sanctuary is in
the backwaters to the west, while Aranmula to the south is one of
the last village still making kannady metal mirrors, and has a
Krishna temple that organizes a ritual "non -Competi-Kottayam,
is known to devotees as the home of a dangerous and wrathful Shiva,
and to art-lovers as a sublime example of temple architecture,
adorned with woodcarvings and murals.
